We're glad you're listening!
Welcome to the NEA Big Read: Pensacola Genealogy Podcast! This podcast is part of our community read of Joy Harjo’s An American Sunrise. This collection of poetry was inspired by Joy Harjo’s journey to her family’s ancestral lands in Alabama. In the early 1800s, the Mvskoke people were forcibly removed from their original lands east of the Mississippi to Indian Territory, which is now part of Oklahoma. Two hundred years later, Joy Harjo returns to her family’s lands and opens a dialogue with history. This podcast explores how members of our community have researched their own Native American lineage and teaches listeners about local genealogical resources.
Caitlyn Cooney, Curator of Education at the Pensacola Museum of Art, will moderate our discussions. Episodes will be released every Friday during the NEA Big Read (October 28 - November 28) |
