Ethics of Display & Freedom of Speech Commitment
PENSACOLA MUSEUM OF ART
AT UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA
The museum is sensitive to the impact that the display of certain artworks can have on the diversity of individuals who visit our institution. As such, we will always take measures to ensure visitors are aware of what is on view, and we will provide the appropriate curatorial and interpretative framework to contextualize the significance of any particular artwork and the rationale for its display.
Only curators and credentialed museum staff are authorized to handle artwork and make decisions regarding the exhibiting and/or removal of works in the museum. If a visitor is uncomfortable with the content and/or visuality of a work of art on view at the museum, that visitor is encouraged to express their concerns to a staff member. However, the museum will not remove any works from view.
